It is about the wonderful Essop brothers, Rashid and Rafiq who, with their own funds, began the cardiology unit at Chris-Hani Bardgwanath hospital in Soweto, near Johannesburg. CHB is the largest hospital in Africa, and the largest in the southern hemisphere. One of the best teaching hospitals in the world it attracts doctors from across the world. Here they will see illnesses and injuries in a single place, that they may struggle to see in developed world hospitals. The Essops trained in Edinburgh and Rashid had the seat of cardiology at Edinburgh University, but chose to return to South Africa to help their own people. Humble men, the work they do is astonishing. This was about a particular machine they needed.
